Int'l Community Expects NAM To Help Restore Peace, Security, freedom

Tehran, Aug 29, IRNA – Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said on Wednesday that the international community expects the Non-Aligned Movement to play much proactive role in global developments and try to help restore peace, security and real freedom as well as human rights. Salehi made the remarks in the inauguration ceremony for NAM human rights center and NAM cultural diversity which opened at Institute for Political and International Studies affiliated to Foreign Ministry of the Islamic Republic of Iran. NAM is to demonstrate the incapability of global arrogance at international relations and help uphold dignity of humans through observing human rights and establishment of a suitable international community to open new horizons for world nations, he said. "Unfortunately, we are now witnessing misuse of dignity of humans as well as the issue of Human Rights in the world," he said. Setting up such center helps establish cultural talks on human rights in coordination with NAM member states, he said. The two-day NAM foreign ministerial meeting will conclude its work this afternoon. The Summit of Leaders will start Thursday morning with participation of 120 member states with the opening remarks of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei./end
