Intl conflicts due to uni-lateral, monopolistic policies: Minister

Tehran, Sept 17, IRNA – Justice Minister Mostafa Pourmohammadi said many present challenges in the world which basically lead to extensive violation of international laws are due to the policies based on unilateralism and monopoly. Addressing the 53rd annual meeting of the Asian-African Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO), he highlighted the elevated position of the organization in the process of developing laws and establishing international standards. Referring to the history of the organization, he said when the AALCO was established in 1950s, developing countries had little role in formation of its structure but they are now in a better position and are capable to play a more active part in developing and promoting international laws. He said it was really significant for member states to safeguard this new achievement. He believed most of the challenges in the present world were due to the resistance the developed countries showed against attempts to fight the monopoly. The minister further voiced concern over the silence of such international bodies as the United Nations on killing of women, children and civilian men in Gaza, massacre of people, both Muslims and non-Muslims in Syria, Iraq and some other African and Asian countries. He asserted that crimes in any form or any place are certainly unacceptable but wondered why international organizations which always aggrandized even the tiniest faults by terming them as threats against the international peace and security were now turning a blind eye to the extensive and targeted bombing of hundreds of thousands of civilian people and ruining non-military constructions. Pourmohammadi said what the world was witnessing now regarding the fate of the terrorist Daesh group was a proof of the double-standard policies being practiced in the world. Saying that Iran was certain about the US-backed origin of the terrorist group, he said had the group succeeded in toppling the Syrian regime, helping Israel to gain victory in its recent war against Gaza people or assist the US-backed politicians get to power in Iraq, it would have now been presented as a symbol of an Islamic state to the world and received many compliments. However, he added, the world is now faced with a suspicious, uni-lateral, interventionist and funny anti-terrorism coalition which will have no outcomes but a deteriorating international situation. The Iranian minister further referred to sabotages in Iran's nuclear talks with the 5+1 as another example of such double-standard policies./end
