Iranˈs Electricity Swap With Neighbors Exceeds 2.1 GW/day

Tehran, May 14, IRNA -- Iranˈs electricity exchange with the neighboring states amounted to 2,196 megawatts (MW) on Tuesday, the Energy Ministry announced. The country exported 1,659 megawatts of electricity to Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Armenia and Turkey, and imported 537 megawatts of power from Armenia and Turkmenistan. Iranˈs power swaps with the neighboring countries showed a positive balance of 1,122 MW on Tuesday. Iran is currently swapping electricity with Armenia, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Iraq and Afghanistan. In October, Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian expressed pleasure in the growing volume of Iranˈs power exports to the neighboring states. He added that Iraq, a main consumer the country's electricity, has called on Tehran to further boost power supplies to the state. “We are moving on a growing trend in exporting electricity to the neighboring countries, including Iraq, Turkey, Armenia, Pakistan and Afghanistan,” Chitchian said at the time./end
