Iranˈs UN Envoy Outlines NAM Views On Decolonization

United Nations, New York, June 24, IRNA – Iranˈs representative to the United Nations Hossein Dehqani outlined the views of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) member states on decolonization especially in Peurto Rico. He made the remarks on Monday in the annual meeting of the UN special committee on decolonization. Iran currently holds the NAM chairmanship. In his remarks, he stressed the rights of Puerto Rican nation to gain independence based on UN Resolution 1514 in 1960. He urged the US government to speed up the process of decolonization for Peurto Rico which has been going on for 39 years now. He said the US should allow the colonized people of Peurto Rico to enjoy their inalienable right for self-rule and independence. He also called on Washington to return the occupied lands to their real owners./end
