Iran’s policy toward U.S. has not changed: Supreme Leader’s advisor

TEHRAN,Sept.30(MNA)– Ali Akbar Velayati, the senior advisor to the Supreme Leader said that Iran’s policy toward relations with the United States is like the past and “no decision in regard to changing the policy has been taken.” “Iran is adherent to its strong policies shaped by Imam Khomeini (RA) and approved by the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution,” Velayati said in an interview with the Persian service of the Mehr News Agency published on Saturday. During his visit to New York last week to address the annual UN General Assembly, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, in interviews with U.S. media outlets, did not rule out the possibility of talks between Iran and the U.S. On the fact that the U.S. State Department on Friday formally removed the terrorist Mojahedin Khalq Organization (MKO) from its official list of terrorist organizations, Velayati said that the measure is indicative of Washington’s moral bankruptcy because it had been proved to the country that the group had conducted many acts of terror in Iran and other countries. Commenting on the talks between the Islamic Republic and the 5+1 group (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany), Velayati said that Iran has never refused to negotiate with the group. Iran’s stance toward the negotiations will not change because it believes that the Iranian nation has a right to peaceful use of nuclear energy according to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), he noted.
