Iran’s Unveiling Of Laser-Guided Shells Gets Wide Coverage

Islamabad, Feb 1, IRNA – Pakistani media have given wide coverage to Iran’s manufacturing of laser-guided artillery shells. An English newspaper ‘Daily Times’ reported that Iran has manufactured laser-guided artillery shells that were capable of spotting and hitting moving targets with a high degree of precision. The report said Iran’s Defense Minister Ahmad Vahidi described the manufacturing of shell as a new chapter in the country’s weapons and military equipment. “Besides America and Russia, there are only three other countries which have this technology,” Vahidi was quoted as saying during the unveiling ceremony. Another major news daily ‘The Nation’ reported that Iran has developed laser-guided artillery rounds designed to home in on stationary or moving targets at a distance of up to 20 kilometres (12 miles). 'Iran is now one of just five countries in the world able to manufacture these sorts of weapons through domestic technology,' Iran’s Defence Minister Ahmad Vahidi was quoted as saying. The newspaper reported that Vahidi last week had said new air and sea defence systems, and electronic warfare technology, would be presented next month, when Iran commemorates the anniversary of its 1979 Islamic revolution. ‘Pakistan Today’ in its report said that Iran has developed laser-guided artillery shells capable of spotting and hitting moving targets with a high degree of precision. The report added Iran is now one of just five countries in the world able to manufacture these sorts of weapons through domestic technology. Urdu leading news daily ‘Jang’ reported that Iran has manufactured laser-guided artillery shells having high degree of precision. The Daily ‘Nawa-i-waqt’ said that Iran has developed laser-guided artillery rounds designed to home in on stationary or moving targets at a distance of up to 20 km (12 miles)./end
