Iran: ‘Region in need of more attention’

TEHRAN, Nov. 14 (MNA) – The new FM spokesman explained the message of his appointment as ‘more attention to the region’ due to his prior regional experience stressing that the region forms only one aspect of his career. In response to a question about his message of appointment where more attention to regional issues has been stressed, Hossein Jaber Ansari said, “the message is not necessarily limited to one issue while one important aspect of the appointment symbolically stressed the need for more attention to regional issues.” “The foreign ministry would not operate in a vacuum rather plans and decisions are made in connection with the real world; at any rate, the region has turned into one of the priorities for Iran as well as many countries and international agents,” he added. Ansari further asserted that, “due to my extensive background in the region, the issue will be reflected in my career while it will remain as only one of many dimensions.” On the latest status of Iran’s former ambassador to Lebanon Ghazanfar Roknabadi who has been missing since the Mina incident, the FM spokesman noted, “Unfortunately, the fate of Roknabadi like some other pilgrims is still unknown and Saudi Arabia has not offered the required cooperation in this regard by mixing political differences with humanitarian matters." Ansari stressed that several follow-up steps have been taken within the framework of existing facilities to determine the fate of the missing pilgrims expressing hope that the case of Roknabadi will not turn into and ‘enigma’. He nothed “honestly speaking, Iran’s relation with Saudi Arabia is currently at a special stage which is totally different from other periods.” “A part of the issue needs to be tracked in conjunction with the Saudi government while other parts require different mechanisms,” Ansari explained. The official further asserted, “the truth is that Saudi Arabia has dealt with the issues in the region without exercising logical interaction; Mina could also be marked as a natural event if the Saudi government had faced it using smartness and logic.” “Saudis should have managed and dealt with the crisis by taking proper rather than irrational policies,” noted the spokesman adding “since Mina tragedy took place, the Saudi government deemed it as a mere accident similar to previous years while their follow-up measures stood exactly at the opposite point.”
