Iran, Afghanistan Judiciary Chiefs Discuss Issues Of Mutual Interest

Tehran, May 19, IRNA – Judiciary Chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli Larijani in a meeting with his Afghan counterpart Abdul Salam Azimi here on Saturday discussed issues of mutual interest with him. In the meeting, Larijani said that historical, religious, and cultural commonalities between the two countries are so deep and old that no hegemonic powers can create obstacle in the way of mutual ties. He added that one of the fields for cooperation between Iran and Afghanistan is the issue of drug smuggling, on which unfortunately Iran, as the front line of fighting against smugglers, has paid a big price. The ayatollah also called for judicial cooperation upon signed agreements between the two countries. Visiting Afghan Judiciary chief, for his part, expressed pleasure with his visit to Iran and called for development of bilateral cooperation, especially in the legal and judicial fields. Underlining Afghanistan government intention on decreasing drug trafficking, Azimi said that uprooting the problem needs an international and multilateral cooperation. The two sides also underlined expansion of legal and judicial relations and increasing cooperation for criminals and convicted repatriation./end
