Iran, Algeria call for more ties

TEHRAN, Aug. 23 (MNA) – Iranian Ambassador to Algiers met with President of the Algerian People's National Assembly Mohamed Al-Arabi Ould Khalifa. In Iranian ambassador's farewell meeting with Ould Khalifa, the two sides stressed on development of relations between the two countries. Mahmoud Mohammadi, Iran’s ambassador to Algeria acknowledged Ould Khalifa's support for expansion of ties between the two countries and delivered Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani's invitation to him. Mohammadi praised the President of Algeria’s timely action to call for an urgent cease-fire in the occupied territories, as well as the Algerian government and public support for the Palestinians. “Fortunately, Algeria in the west of Islamic borders and Iran in the east have become an active centers of diplomacy and regional stability, and the two countries have solid international cooperation,” stated he. Mohamed Al-Arabi Ould Khalifa, chairman of Algeria's People's National Assembly, described the ties between the two countries as positive and stated that “the exchange of higher levels of parliamentary and political delegations has greatly improved the ties and the two countries must be diligent in maintaining and developing them.” He went on saying that “the Islamic Republic of Iran with its several thousand years of civilization has greatly contributed to improvement of the world’s culture and in recent years, has performed well in combating challenges and crises, which is highly acknowledged by Algeria.” Mohamed Ould Khalifa pointed to the great number of exchange between Algeria and Iran’s parliamentary delegations as a sign of Iran’s interest in developing ties and stating her position, especially in support of the oppressed people of Palestine. He stressed the important role of Algeria in creating regional stability, including in neighboring countries' crises, while avoiding interference in their internal affairs.
