Iran Appoints New Envoy To Afghanistan

Kabul, Sept 30, IRNA – Afghan foreign Ministry spokesman Janan Mosazai on Sunday expressed pleasure with the appointment of Mohammad-Reza Bahrami as Iranian new ambassador to Afghanistan. Mosazai said in his weekly press conference that Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in a meeting with his Afghan counterpart Zalmay Rassoul at the UN Headquarters in New York said that Mohammad-Reza Bahrami was appointed as Iran’s new ambassador to Kabul which was immediately welcomed by the Afghan minister. Bahrami served as Iranian ambassador to Afghanistan in the past, made every effort to promote bilateral ties during his tenure, Mosazai said. Afghan President Hamid Karzai had offered Bahrami Afghanistan’s national badge of Ahmad Shah Massoud in his farewell meeting at the end of his diplomatic mission in the country. Bahrami replaces Abolfazl Zohrevand, the outgoing ambassador to Kabul./end
