Iran Army Ends 'Zolfaghar 91' Maneuvers

Qasr-e Shirin, Kermanshah province, Nov 1, IRNA - The Iranian Army on Wednesday wrapped up its three-day maneuvers code-named Zolfaghar 91" along the country’s border with Iraq. The Commander of the Army's westwen operational headquarters Brigadier General Manoucher Kazemi told IRNA that the third and the final phase of the great drill was conducted with a complicated operation using live ammunition and heavy weapons in the public region in the west. He said the air mobility operation was held from October 29-31 in Gilan-e Gharb district in the western province of Kermanshah. “This maneuver was among the most spectacular drills ever held by the Iranian Army in which airborne and 55 heliborne units forces and other units of the Iranian Army’s Ground Forces took part," Kazemi added. He said in the drill Iranian made drones were used to make reconnaissance flights over the target areas, take pictures and films of the targets and send them to the main army headquarters. The commander explained about the aims of the drill and said it was in fact aimed at boosting the combat readiness of the Army personnel and display defense capabilities of its various divisions. The commander stressed that showing the deterrence capabilities and enhancing combat readiness of airborne units in quick action and reaction operations were among other objectives of the drill./end
