Iran-Azerbaijan Republics Border Rivers Commission Completes Mission

Baku, Nov 17, IRNA – After finalizing the executive worksheet of border rivers between the Republics of Iran and Azerbaijan, the 3rd meeting of representatives commissioned to prepare that worksheet ended their work in Baku Friday night. The representatives of Iran and Azerbaijan reached agreement after holding two days of intensive talks to begin cooperation for construction of the banks of the border rivers of Aras, Astara-Chai, and Balha-Roud in accordance with the agreement signed between the former Iranian regime and the former Soviet Union in the year 1975. The objective of the 3rd Session of the Border Rivers Commission was defined as presenting an appropriate work plan aimed at preserving the banks of the two countries' there border rivers. The first session of the said commission in this respect was held in Baku, the second one was held in November 2010 in Tehran, and the 3rd one, in which the above-mentioned decision was made was held in Baku, the capital city of Azerbaijan Republic. The fourth session of the Iran-Azerbaijan Republics Border Rivers Commission is scheduled to be held in Tehran again within three or four months. Earlier this year, Managing Director of Border Rivers and Shared Resources of Iran's Ministry of Energy had reiterated in an interview with IRNA, 'During the course of the past 54 years the technicians and engineers of both sides have had close and satisfactory cooperation on fixation of the banks of the shared border rivers./end
