Iran calls for extremism to be uprooted in the region

Tehran, Dec 3, IRNA - Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said on Wednesday that extremism should be uprooted by intensive campaign against terrorist groups. Amir-Abdollahian made the remarks in a meeting with Omani Foreign Minsiter Yusuf bin Alawi. To seriously deal with the issue of terrorism and extremism in the Middle East region they should be uprooted, he underlined. Amir-Abdollahian said Iran and Oman should take advantage of their potentials to secure mutual and the regional interests. Activities of commission and committees set by the two governments prove that both sides are determined to broaden all-out relations and cooperation, he said. Since terrorist groups in the region increase their level of cooperation, the governments of the region should broaden cooperation to deal with menaces of terrorism, he said. The Omani foreign minister said for his part that relations between Iran and Oman are of special considerations of Leadership of Iran and Oman. Referring to the significant status of Iran in regional developments, he said the constructive role of Iran in restoring stability and security of the region is well-known to all, bin Alawi said. Terrorism and extremism are serious threats to the countries of the region; he said and called for exercising vigilance and close cooperation among countries of the region to thwart terrorism, the Omani foreign minister said./end
