Iran Calls For Israeli Unconditional Accession To WMDs Treaties

Tehran, Dec 1, IRNA – Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Abbas Araqchi said on Saturday that Israel sign up to treaties consistent with Weapons of Mass Destruction unconditionally, underlining universality of the treaties banning WMDs. Araqchi made the remarks in a meeting with Finland deputy foreign minister, Jaakko Laajava, who is also facilitator of International Conference on Middle East free from WMDs. Araqchi said that Iran proposed the idea of creating WMDs-free Middle East in 1974, and that materialization of the idea is a strategic goal for Iran and other regional states. Araqchi said that it is clear that Israeli nuclear installations are in contravention of the IAEA Safeguards Agreement so that Israeli non-accession to NPT is the main obstacle to the materialization of the idea of Middle East free from WMDs./end
