Iran calls for realization of Middle East Nuclear Weapon Free Zone proposal

Tehran, June 28, IRNA - The Iranian foreign minister on Thursday called for realization of Middle East Nuclear Weapon Free Zone proposal and slammed the US and Israel's opposition to the plan. In a message to a ceremony held to celebrate the 31th anniversary of Sardasht chemical attack, Mohammad Javad Zarif described the US and Zionist regime as main suppliers of WMDs in the Middle East and urged the international community to guarantee annihilation of the Zionist regime's nuclear, chemical and biologic arsenals. He said that Israel's nuclear, chemical and biological weapons are the biggest threat to the security of the region and world. Zarif referred to the US violation of its obligations under the Convention on Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical Weapons and on their Destruction and urged the country to destruct its chemical weapons. The Iranian foreign minister warned about the use of chemical weapons by terrorists groups, including Daesh (ISIS) in Iraq and Syria and condemned politicizing the Organization for Prohibition of Chemical Weapons. 1378/IRNA
