Iran calls for US conviction in ICJ

London, IRNA – Iran's representative to the International Court of Justice on Wednesday called on the court to make a ruling to oblige the US government to compensate for the damages to Iran over the past four decades. Tavakkol Habibzadeh, who also heads the international law department of the presidential office, made the remarks during an ICJ hearing session. Also speaking during the session, Iran's lawyers referred to legal standards and international judicial procedures, demonstrating that the laws approved by the United States and the decisions of the courts of that country against Iran are contrary to the country's obligations in a 1955 Treaty of Amity. The ICJ court hearing is about the case of the US seizure of assets of the Central Bank of Iran, Bank Melli of Iran and other Iranian banks. The session began on September 19 and will continue until September 23. Follow us on Twitter @IrnaEnglish
