Iran celebrating anniversary of Islamic Revolution

TEHRAN, Feb. 01 (MNA) – Celebrations on the 36th anniversary of the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution began in Iran with the presence of military and state officials at Imam Khomeini’s holy shrine. The ceremonies marking the 36th anniversary of Islamic Revolution kicked off across Iran on Sunday marking the day when the late founder of the Islamic Republic Imam Khomeini (RA) arrived back home on February 1, 1979, after spending more than 14 years in exile in Turkey, Iraq and France. The ceremony was attended by officials, families of martyrs and war-veterans and different groups of people from all walks of life. Parliament Deputy-Speaker Aboutorabi-Fard addressed the main ceremony held at the mausoleum of Imam Khomeini (RA) south of Tehran. Ten days after Imam Khomeini'sarrival on February 1, the Revolution gained victory on February 11, 1979. The ten days between the two dates is titled as Fajr Decade and is celebrated every year across the country. Overthrowing the US-backed Pahlavi regime 36 years ago, the Iranian nation put an end to 2,500 years of monarchic rule in the country. Commemoration of Islamic Revolution has also been held by representatives of Iran’s embassies in 60 countries throughout the world.
