Iran Condemns Monday Plot To Assassinate Syrian PM

Tehran, April 30, IRNA – Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ramin Mehmanparast condemned the assassination attempt of the Syrian Prime Minister Wael al-Halki. Making the remark here Tuesday, he also called on international bodies to support diplomacy to settle the crisis in Syria. The Syrian prime minister was the target of an unsuccessful assassination attack that caused a number of deaths and injuries. Describing the attack as a terrorist action, Mehmanparast expressed condolences with the victims familiesˈ. He added that the event exposed the reality of terrorist groups active in Syria. The diplomat said certain international and regional elements which blatantly support terrorists and rebels in Syria must stand responsible for such sad events. He then urged those bodies to take steps to halt violence and bloodshed in Syria instead of backing terrorist groups there./end
