Iran condemns terrorist attacks in Indonesia

Tehran, May 14, IRNA – Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi late Sunday denounced three blasts in churches in the Indonesian city of Surabaya and expressed solidarity with the country’s government and nation, especially families of the victims of the deadly attacks. He further noted that cold-blooded terrorist acts by any person or group and in any part of the world are condemned. The only way to counter such inhuman acts is resolve, unity and efforts by countries at regional and international levels to find root causes of terrorism, identify the main terrorism nurturing centers and undertake serious measures to tackle the dreadful phenomenon, he said. At least nine people died and 40 were wounded in three blasts during Sunday services in Indonesia's second-biggest city Surabaya--the deadliest attacks for years in the world's biggest Muslim-majority country. East Java police spokesman Frans Barung Mangera confirmed the deaths of 11 people and wounding of 41 others after three churches were hit by apparently coordinated attacks around 7.30 am (12.30am GMT). The attacks took place two days after the Meeting of Afghan, Indonesian and Pakistani Ulama in the city of Bogor, where they reaffirmed support for peace process in Afghanistan. 1378/IRNA
