Iran Criticizes UNSC For Interfering In UNGA Agenda

New York, Oct 12, IRNA – Irans Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Gholamhossein Dehqani criticized the Security Council for interfering in the UN General Assembly tasks and agenda. Talking in the meeting of the UNGA sixth committee on behalf of the Non-Aligned Movement member states, he voiced concern over certain decisions made by the Security Council and its disrespect for the United Nations General Assembly s functions and duties. He also expressed concern over the sanctions imposed by the UNSC on some of the Non-Aligned Movement members, noting that the NAM considers sanctions as the last solution which is practical only when there is a danger threatening international peace and security. He stressed that sanctions should not be used as tools against nations since they mainly exert pressures on vulnerable people. Dehqani further called for adopting logical methods confirmed by the majority in the international community to cope with global challenges./end
