Iran Decries Objection Of Syrian Terrorists To Moscow Initiative To Put Syrian Chemical Weapons Under Supervision

Moscow, Sept 11, IRNA – Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African Affairs, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on Tuesday decried objection of Syrian terrorists to Russian initiative to bring the Syrian chemical weapons under international supervision. Russia, on Monday, proposed Syria to put its chemical weapons under international supervision for subsequent destruction to avert a possible US military strike. The proposal was welcomed by the Syrian government. Amir-Abdollahian who is on a visit to Moscow to confer with Russian officials over Syria told IRNA that those fighting to overthrow the Syrian government do not account for opposition, rather they are foreign-sponsored terrorist and Takfiri groups trying to destabilize the Middle East. Since the beginning of the conflict, the terrorist groups have maintained that they do not believe in political settlement of the Syrian crisis, he said. He added that one of the main objectives to support terrorist groups in Syria is to undermine axis of resistance to Israeli occupation. He reiterated that the Russian proposal and Syrian acceptance to put its chemical weapons under international supervision have provided an opportunity that should be seized to settle Syria crisis through diplomatic means and avert any possible war and bloodshed./end
