Iran did not contact U.S. officials during UN visit: Iranian FM official

TEHRAN,Oct.2(MNA)- Iranian officials did not contact or hold a meeting with U.S. officials during their visit to New York to attend the 67th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, according to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast. “There had been no contact, meeting, or talks with U.S. government officials, and the framework of our country’s foreign policy is quite clear,” Mehmanparast told Al-Alam news network in New York on Sunday. “In the Islamic Republic of Iran, all decisions on major issues concerning foreign policy are (made)… under the supervision of the Supreme Leader,” he stated. And no measure has been taken so far in regard to Iran’s relationship with the U.S., Mehmanparast added. He also said, “Due to the fact that the Americans have taken numerous hostile actions against our nation throughout history, the ground has not been prepared for negotiations with them so far. (This may happen) if they accept their past mistakes, apologize to our people, and make efforts to bring about a situation where the rights of our people would be recognized. These are the points that all officials, including the president, (have) emphasized.” In the interviews that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad gave during his stay in New York, he said that he does not dismiss the possibility of talks with the United States, a statement that drew criticism from a number of Iranian officials.
