Iran-Egypt-Turkey Leaders To Meet On Syria

Islamabad, Nov 21, IRNA – Iranian, Egyptian, and Turkish leaders will discuss current Syrian crisis on the sidelines of a summit meeting of the group of eight Muslim developing countries (D8) in Islamabad. Visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi told reporters in Islamabad airport on Tuesday night. He further added that the Islamic Republic of Iran will make its 'utmost efforts' to help resolve the current crisis in the regional countries, especially Syria, peacefully. 'Leaders of D8 countries will sign new agreements for the expansion of economic relations in Islamabad; D8 countries are committed to promote the level of trade exchanges; Iran has achieved its goals in relation with the promotion of cooperation with the D8 countries.' FM underlined that Tehran and Islamabad as two members of D8 are committed to develop relations including the execution of Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline. Iranian officials have frequently stressed the need for finding a political solution to Syria without foreign interference and expressed their readiness to provide assistance for peaceful settlement of Syrian crisis. Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011 with organized attacks by well-armed gangs against Syrian police forces and border guards being reported across the country. Thousands of people, including members of the security forces, have been killed, when some protest rallies turned into armed clashes. The government blames outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups for the deaths, stressing that the unrest is being orchestrated from abroad. In October 2011, calm was eventually restored in the Arab state after President Assad started a reform initiative in the country, but Israel, the US and its Arab allies are seeking hard to bring the country into chaos through any possible means. Tel Aviv, Washington and some Arab capitals have been staging various plots in the hope of increasing unrest in Syria./end
