Iran Emerges As World Power After Islamic Revolution: Analyst

Islamabad, Feb 4, IRNA – A Pakistani analyst on Tuesday said the 1979 Islamic Revolution has turned Iran into a major world power which can protect itself. Talking to IRNA, Syed Qandil Abbas, assistant Professor of International Relations at Quaid-e-Azam University said that after the victory of the Islamic Revolution, Iran faced lots of challenges which could not damage the commitment of Iranian nation to the Islamic Revolution. The scholar congratulated people and the government of Iran on the 35th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution victory, adding that the West and certain Arab states had tried their utmost to weaken the Islamic Revolution by imposing sanctions and creating economic problems for the country but failed to stop its development. “Iranian leaders have realized that they have to depend on their own resources if they want to survive as a respectable nation in the world,” said the analyst. He stressed that Iran has refused to recognize the illegitimate Zionist regime and followed an independent foreign policy, adding that the Founder of the Islamic Republic, the late Imam Khomeini, had given a true concept of Islam and established an Islamic welfare state. He noted that Iran is developing in all sectors, they are overhauling aircraft, making tanks as well as light and heavy weapons and machinery. He further praised Iranˈs peaceful nuclear program, saying the country is using the technology in medicine, agriculture and power sectors. “Today Iran is having strong defense that is why western states despite threats cannot even think about start of a military attack on the country,” added the analyst. The expert on international affairs reiterated that another reason for the success of the Islamic Revolution is the close relationship between people and the government. Abbas said that the Revolution had thrown away western backed dictatorship from Iran and established a strong democracy in the country, saying the Islamic Revolution was actually an Islamic awakening that had inspired many Islamic movements in the world. He noted that the 1979 Revolution had a great impact on the international politics and changed the world scenario altogether./end
