Iran Envoy: Turnout Of Iranians Residing In China, Remarkable

Beijing, China, June 15, IRNA - Iranian Ambassador to Beijing Mahdi Safari described the turnout of Iranians residing in China in polling stations for Iranˈs 11th presidential election as ˈvery remarkableˈ. Speaking to IRNA, Safari said the voting is taking place in several Chinese cities including Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai and Hong Kong. Pointing to the role of Iranˈs 11th presidential election in the international scene, he noted the massive presence of people on the scene can play a pivotal role in reinforcing any system of government and peopleˈs presence is more vital in Islamic Republic of Iran which enjoys a popular system of government. The voting is taking place in 128 polling stations in 96 countries. Iranˈs 11th presidential polls as well as the 4th city and rural council election started at 60,000 polling stations throughout the country. Some 51 million Iranians are eligible to vote in the presidential election. The six candidates in Iran’s presidential election are head of the Expediency Council’s Strategic Research center Hassan Rohani, Supreme National Security Council Secretary Saeed Jalili, Expediency Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei, Tehran Mayor Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, former foreign minister Ali Akbar Velayati, and former telecommunications minister Mohammad Gharazi. Former Majlis speaker Gholam Ali Haddad-Adel and former first vice president Mohammad Reza Aref withdrew their candidacies earlier this week./end
