Iran Envoy: War In Name Of Peace Senseless

Ankara, Sept 11, IRNA – Iran’s Ambassador to Turkey, Alireza Bigdeli, said on Tuesday that waging war under pretext of establishing peace is meaningless. Speaking to Istanbul-based daily Jomhuriat, Bigdeli said, “We do know there are certain people in the US Congress who want to drag the country into war while there are other logical people who are opposed to war.” He said to condemn Damascus, Americans do not have any justification at hand as the UN has not made any decision yet on who had really used chemical arms in Syria. He added that public opinion in the US opposes war and “We do hope that the group favoring war in Syria would change their mind because big wars have always started with a small ignition. The war wagers do not wish to end it. The flames of war will engulf the whole region.” The Iranian diplomat commented on the claim that Lebanese Hizbollah would retaliate if the US attacks Syria, saying all do know pretty well how those waging war in the region are looked upon with hatred. “Nations have now awakened and would not let others decide their fate. The country using arms to show power would experience a tragedy like that of Afghanistan and Iraq. “Hundreds die weekly in Iraq and Afghanistan now,” he regretted. Commenting on transfer of chemical arms to other countries from Syria, he said that’s an issue on which Syrian officials, especially President Bashar Assad, should decide./end
