Iran, EU power talks to kick off

TEHRAN, Dec.1 (MNA) – Managing Director of Iran’s Renewable Energies Organization announced the beginning of extensive negotiations with four European Union member states in order to invest in the construction of wind and solar power plants in Iran. In an Interview to Mehr News, Managing Director of Iran’s Renewable Energies Organization Yousef Armodeli described the new round of negotiations between Iran and the EU member states, adding that talks have currently begun with companies from Germany, Spain, Portugal and Italy in order to invest in the construction of wind and solar power plants in the country. Yousef Armodeli added that European investors were examining and evaluating the best geographical location for construction of wind and solar power plants in Iran and at the same time bilateral talks and consultations were in progress. Pointing to introduction of European companies to domestic investors in private sector for further joint participations as a main topic on the agenda of talks, Yousef Armodeli expressed hope for possibility of large renewable power plants construction contracts in Iran due to the process of the nuclear talks with 5+1 in the near future. Managing Director of Iran’s Renewable Energy Organization Yousef Armodeli emphasized that in addition to European countries, some Chinese companies had also begun negotiations over setting up wind and solar turbine production lines in Iran. Recalling that the country has a production capacity of about 260 mW of clean electricity and 300 million kW hours of renewable electricity in the country, Yousef Armodeli said he expects clean power generation capacity to exceed 400 mW by the end of this year.
