Iran FM Applauds Afghanistan Power Sharing Deal

New York, Sept 27, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Minister in a meeting with his Afghan counterpart welcomed the power sharing deal in Afghanistan. Mohammad Javad Zarif in a meeting with Zarar Ahmad Osmani on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly’s 69th Session, hailed the political agreement reached between Afghanistan's two presidential contenders. Political agreement in Afghanistan can boost national unity in this region, he added. Zarif also called the two neighboring countries' relations as historical-cultural and stressed the enhance of all-out ties between the two natios. Osmani for his part welcomed expansion of Kabul's ties with Tehran. Iran as a key regional power has always supported Afghanistan stability, he said. Iranian Foreign Ministry has welcomed the political agreement reached between Afghan presidential candidates Ashraf Ghani and Abdullah Abdullah for forming a national unity government. The two candidates for presidency of Afghanistan last Sunday signed an agreement on a power-sharing government that would make Ashraf Ghani president, while the runner-up, Abdullah Abdullah, would effectively become a prime minister with substantial powers of his own./end
