Iran FM Calls For Expanding Ties With Turkey

Tehran, Aug 17, IRNA – Iran FM Mohammad Javad Zarif in a telephone conversation with his Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu called for further expansion of ties and cooperation. Zarif underlined the need for bolstering and reinvigorating Tehran-Ankara bilateral ties. Davutoglu, for his part, congratulated his Iranian counterpart on his appointment to the new position expressing hope that both countries’ ties will further enhance in the future. Zarif and Davutoglu also discussed regional and international issues, specially the Egyptian crisis, and called on regional states to help resolve the Arab country’s chaotic situation. The Turkish foreign minister voiced his support for holding the upcoming foreign ministerial meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) in Tehran. Davutoglu also invited Zarif to visit Turkey in line with enhancement of bilateral ties as well as attending the trilateral meeting among Iran-Turkey-Azerbaijan slated to be held in the Turkish city of Erzurum./end
