Iran FM Spokeswoman Denies Remarks Attributed To EC Chief

Tehran, Sept 3, IRNA – Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham on Monday strongly ruled out remarks attributed to the Chairman of the Expediency Council Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani. According to the press bureau of the Foreign Ministry, she said the remarks made by Expediency Council chief on use of chemical weapons in Syria had been distorted and that his office had denied the issue too. Chairman of the Expediency Council referred to Syria as a stronghold in fight against the Zionist regime and believed that certain powers are pursuing a military attack on the country on the pretext of use of chemical weapons, Afkham reiterated./end
