Iran, France oppose hostile approach to Syrian crisis

TEHRAN, May 03 (MNA) – Iran's Deputy FM said Iran supports a political approach to solve the crisis in Syria, in opposition to those who held a hostile approach to violate the ceasefire. “Adopting a military approach, some actors, from the very beginning, backed terrorists to achieve their goals, however, the Islamic Republic of Iran supported a political solution to resolve Syrian crisis and did not hesitate any humanitarian aid to the war-stricken country,” Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said addressing the Secretary General of France for Foreign Affairs and International Development Christian Masset here on Sunday. Discussing the latest developments in the region, Amir-Abdollahian raised concerns over the violation of ceasefire in Syria by armed groups, underlining the need for a proper understanding of the international community about the definition of terrorist groups in Syria. Despite agreements made in Geneva for a ceasefire in Syria, Iranian diplomat said, some armed groups holding a hostile approach violated the ceasefire in coordination with al-Qaeda and ISIL terrorist groups. Christian Masset, for his part, pointed to the need to resume peace talks with Syria, saying Tehran and Paris hold common solution to the crisis in Syria. “The fight against terrorism and support for the democratic process in Syria and the future of the Arab country must be determined by its own people,” Masset said, underlining the two countries have common views on Syria. Secretary General Masset asserted that ISIL and al-Nusra are definitely terrorists and France also has suffered from the groups.
