Iran-Georgia Call For Further Ties, More Co-op

Baku, Dec 9, IRNA – Iran's Ambassador to Georgia Majid Saber, in a meeting with Georgia parliament new Speaker David Usupashvili, called for further ties and more cooperation between the two countries. The Georgian MP, by referring to historical ties between the two countries, supported more presence of Iranians in Georgia and called for expansion of relations between Tehran and Tbilisi. He added that Iran is a big country in the region and Georgia sincerely intends to consolidate ties with Iran in all fields. Usupashvili also underlined expansion of parliamentary relations between Iran and Georgia, adding that since there is a new parliament in Georgia, Georgian side of Iran, Georgia parliamentary friendship group will be introduced soon. The two sides discussed ways of developing mutual ties and called for giving more momentum to parliamentary diplomacy./end
