Iran Growing Power, Source Of New Regional Developments

Ankara, Sept 27, IRNA – The Turkish expert of strategic issues Husnu Mahalli said regional developments are experiencing a state of stability thanks to Iran's increasing power. In an exclusive interview with IRNA, he outlined the latest regional developments and pointed to the failure of the joint schemes among the US, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey to support Syrian opponents and the so-called Free Syrian Army. He said based on evidence, a new plan is underway in the region with the US trying to depict Turkey as incompetent in leading the coalition of Syrian opponents and the Free Syrian Army in a bid to assign Saudi Arabia to control them. He also commented on a meeting between the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and the British Prime Minister David Cameron which took place on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meeting in New York on Wednesday. The Turkish expert said the meeting which was the first of the kind in 35 years proves that Iran's successive victories in regional developments has virtually pushed Turkey aside, giving Iran the chance to emerge as an important regional player. The course of events and Iran's role in international developments are such that there would be no surprise to hear one day of a meeting between the Iranian President and his US counterpart. He said Iran's political and diplomatic achievements in fact mean the victory of the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and indirect victory for Russia in the region. He believed any positive developments in Ukraine too will be the result of improving situation in the Middle East./end
