Iran to host Intl. Conf. on World against Violence

TEHRAN, Oct. 20 (MNA) –The Director General of the Institute for Political and International Studies in Iran announced that an international conference on World against Violence will be held in December. Following the approval of President Rouhani’s proposal in the UN, Mostafa Zahrani, the Director General of the Institute for Political and International Studies announced that the International Conference on World against Violence will be held in Tehran on December 9-10. On Sunday afternoon, Zahrani said to the reports, “following President Rouhani’s proposal on world against violence and its consequent approval by the UN, it has been decided to hold a conference on this subject so as to transform it into an international brand.” “The composition of this conference has been based on the Munich Security Conference and henceforth will be held annually,” he asserted. “So far officials, experts and intellectuals from 30 other countries have expressed eagerness to attend and have even submitted articles to the conference office,” he said. Zahrani stressed that the aim of this conference is not merely promotional but rather it is to politically influence the world so that it would transform into a move within the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran. He noted that Iran is part of the solutions to the international and regional issues and said, “in the conference on World against Violence, expert panels will be held on various regional issues, the structure of the international system, religion and violence, as well as global violence.” He maintained that this two-day conference will open with the attendance of President Rouhani and said, “on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Moahammad Javad Zarif, Iran’s FM, met with the world’s foreign ministers and presented to them the idea of holding such a conference. The Director of the conference will be sending invitations to the current and former officials from various countries around the world, as well as experts, scholars and intellectuals.” The conference report will be presented to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. Ban Ki-moon.
