Iran, ITER collaboration a win-win agreement: official

Tehran, Nov 6, IRNA - Visiting Director-General of ITER International Fusion Energy Organization Bernard Bigot voiced his full endorsement for Iran’s joining the nuclear fusion project, saying the cooperation will have win-win results for both sides. Bigot made the remarks on Saturday in Tehran, on the sidelines of inking ceremony of the first memorandum of understanding between ITER and Iran. Describing the project as the biggest and most up-to-date one in the field of nuclear fusion, he added all countries, Iran in particular, could joint the project. Bigot reiterated that the Islamic Republic as an important and advanced country could have a vital collaboration with the project. Touching upon the Paris agreement on tackling climate changes, he added the deal which is on the verge of implementation would help improvement process of the current environment conditions. Commenting on Iran's valuable experiences in the fields of nuclear fusion, he added the partnership will yield win-win results for both sides. He underscored that at present 80 percent of the world’s energy need is met by fossil fuels which are already diminishing. That is why the ITER project is very crucial, the official added. Bigot also cited the reactors' high safety, boundless access to natural resources (Hydrogen), and environmental protection as the three major important benefits of the ITER project. He stressed that the Islamic Republic of Iran’s contribution in the project is vital and the implementation of technology would serve the interests of all countries. Bigot arrived in Tehran on Saturday. He held talks with the Head of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali-Akbar Salehi and Vice-President for Science and Technology, Sorena Sattari. Iran and ITER inked their first MoU which would oblige the two sides to keep information as confidential. 1378/IRNA
