Iran Monitoring Border Points More Carefully

Rasht, Gilan Prov, June 21, IRNA – Deputy Interior Minister for Security Affairs Ali Abdollahi said on Friday that Iran has intensified security measures in its border areas monitoring border points more carefully. Addressing a local gathering in this northern province, Abdollahi said Tehran gives priority to its border areas as it enjoys a long land and sea borders. Referring to the present situation in some of Iranˈs neighboring countries as well as efforts made by enemies of the Islamic Revolution to form terrorist groups, the official stressed the need to give more priority to the Iranian border areas. He said trafficking of illegal drugs and arms were among major issues which add insecurity and requires confrontation, adding that promotion of physical measures and using more electronic devices in border points were among major moves made by the government to that end. Possessing over 5,000-km of land borders, Iran is the 25th world country with the longest land border areas./end
