Iran MPs Condemn Death Of A Pro-Hijab Activist In Azerbaijan’s Prison

Tehran, July 23, IRNA – A large group of members of the Iranian Parliament (Majlis) issued a statement Sunday condemning the death of one of the pro-Hijab (Islamic dress code) activists in a prison in Baku, Azerbaijan. Some 153 out of the 290 Iranian MPs said in the statement that Vaqif Abdullayev has sacrificed his life to defend religious values. Reports said that Abdullyev was dead as he was subjected to harsh physical and mental pressures in prison, the MPs said in the statement.. Reports from Azerbaijan said that Abdullayev, 61, was the deputy chairman of the Islamic Party of Azerbaijan and was serving an 11-year jail term. On July 13, he was pronounced dead from a heart attack in the hospital of a Baku prison./end
