Iran Needs No Mediator In Contact With Arab Govts

Tehran, Oct 29, IRNA – Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham said on Tuesday that Iran needs no go-between in contact with the Arab governments, because it enjoys deep relations with the Arab nations in the region. Talking in her weekly press briefing, she commented on the remarks of the Egyptian foreign minister who had voiced readiness to mediate between Iran and the Arab governments. Afkham said that Iran has good neighborly relations and excellent ties with the Arab governments in the Persian Gulf region. She hoped for further cooperation between Iran and Arab countries so that such misinterpretations are removed. Asked about recent visit of the special envoy of the Arab League and the United Nations Secretary General Lakhdar Brahimi to Tehran, she said his trip aimed at paving the way for the Geneva-2 Conference. She said the envoy held useful meetings with the Iranian officials. She said Iran has from the very beginning of the Syrian crisis, called for political solutions to the critical situation. Referring the US debugging scandal, she said no such case has occurred with the Iranian officials./end
