Iran Officials Absent In Unveiling Report On Violation Of Human Rights In US

Tehran, Jan 28, IRNA – All Iranian officials invited to attend an event to unveil a report on violations of human rights in US in 2013 were absent in the Monday occasion, save for representatives of the heads of the judiciary and legislative forces. In the invitation extended by the Basij Mobilization Resistance Force on the occasion, the speakers in the event were announced to be Mohammad Javad Larijani, the deputy judiciary chief for international affairs and that body’s secretary for human rights affairs, Seyyed Mohammad Hassan Aboutorabifard, the vice-speaker of the Parliament,and Ala’eddin Boroujerdi, chairman of the Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission. Other invited officials who did not attend the occasion included the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) Chief Seyyed Ezzatollah Zarqami, the President’s Legal Affairs Advisor Elham Aminzadeh, Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and international Affairs Seyyed Abbas Araqchi, Consultant Foreign Minister and Managing Director or Human Rights and Women’s Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Mansoureh Sharifi, and the Head of the Higher Education Center on International Studies Abu Mohammad Asgarkhani. No explanation was given for the reason of their collective absence in the event. The unveiling of report on violations of human rights in US in 2013, sponsored by the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) Basij Mobilization Resistance Force, was held Monday at the auditorium of the College of Laws and Political Sciences of the University of Tehran and the two speakers present were representatives of the judiciary and legislative forces. The report included facts and figures on violations of human rights in US prisons in 2013, including one in Guantanamo, and sexual abuse of female officers in the US army both at home and during their missions aboard./end
