Iran : Peace-keeping Operations Should Not Be Used For Military Interventions

New York, Feb 20, IRNA – Iran’s Ambassador to the United Nations Gholamhossein Dehghani stressed that peace-keeping operations should not be used as a tool for military intervention or achieve political goals in other countries by certain world governments. He made the remarks while addressing the meeting of the United Nations special committee for peace-keeping operations. He said the UN peace-keeping operations are dynamic and unique ways to help countries suffering from armed conflicts since the operations could lead to sustainable peace in these countries. Iran believes that any deviation from the fundamentals of the philosophy of peace-keeping operation would just undervalue them, he added. The diplomat further underscored that Iran together with other members of the Non-Aligned Movement stress the primary mission of the United Nation in maintaining global peace and security./end
