Iran Plays Leading Role In Region: Syrian Official

Tehran, Feb 9, IRNA – Visiting Syrian deputy foreign minister said here on Sunday that the Islamic Republic of Iran plays a leading role in the region. Talking exclusively to IRNA, Hessamaddin Alla commented on trilateral meeting of Iran, Syria and Switzerland aimed at easing dispatch of humanitarian aid to the Syrian nation. The senior officials from the three states started the trilateral meeting in Tehran on Tuesday (Feb 4) discussing ways of facilitating aid supply to Syria, which has been gripped by deadly crisis for nearly three years. The United Nationsˈ move to withdraw an invitation to Tehran for attending the Geneva II Conference on Syria was a mistake that should be compensated, he said. Iran invited Damascus to the meeting to discuss avenues to dispatch humanitarian supplies to Syria and review the ongoing critical situation of the people there, Alla added.
