Iran, Portugal unveil historical book on glorious Persian Empire

TEHRAN, Jan. 27 (MNA) – During a ceremony on Monday, Iran and Portuguese FMs unveiled a book titled ‘A Glance at the Glorious Empire of Pars’ on the two countries’ relations. Before the unveiling ceremony, Mohammad Javad Zarif hailed Iran and Portugal’s long-standing relations, noting he had held talks with his Portuguese counterpart Rui Machete on various regional and international issues including extremism and also Iran’s nuclear program. Speaking among reporters and university students on Monday, Rui Machete had maintained Portugal recognized Iran’s rights in the nuclear negotiations with the six states and fully supported the obtaining of a joint solution through negotiations. A Glance at the Glorious Empire of Pars has been written by the Portuguese historian João Teles e Cunha who was also present at the unveiling ceremony. The book contains valuable, firsthand historical information on the newly-established Safavid Empire, the rise and fall of Portugal’s naval power in the Persian Gulf, and the attempts of the Portuguese state, especially the State of India, to form alliances with Iran. The Portuguese FM Rui Machete arrived in Tehran on Monday and met with President Hassan Rouhani, his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif, as well as international advisors at various faculties of the University of Tehran. He also delivered a speech among students and university professors of Faculty of World Studies.
