Iran President Strongly Condemns Use Of Chemical Weapons

Tehran, Aug 24, IRNA - President Hassan Rohani here on Saturday strongly condemned the use of chemical weapons anywhere in the world. He made the remarks after he and his cabinet members attended the mausoleum of the late Imam Khomeini in downtown Tehran to renew allegiance to the Founder of the Islamic Republic. Iran, as a victim of chemical weapon, advises the international community to abandon the use of chemical weapons anywhere, particularly in Syria. Expressing regret over the current situation in the region, he stressed that a large number of innocent people have been killed or wounded in the recent chemical attack in Syria. Pointing to the terrorist operations in Lebanon, President Rohani condemned the Zionist regimes air raid on the country, adding that such moves indicate that the enemies have masterminded a large scale conspiracy against the Islamic Republic and the whole region that is more significant in Syria, Lebanon and Egypt. Regional instability would only benefit the Zionist regime, he said, expressing hope that through vigilance of peace-loving people and states, the entire region would witness stability and tranquility in near future. President Rohani and members of his administration paid tribute to the Father of the Islamic Revolution by laying wreaths at his mausoleum. The visit took place on the first day of the Government Week which is observed in Iran from August 24-30 each year in commemoration of former president Mohammad Ali Rajai, prime minister Mohammad Javad Bahonar, and a number of their companions who were assassinated in a terrorist attack on August 30, 1981./end
