Iran protests to reimposition of sanction on Sharif University of Technology

Tehran, Nov 9, IRNA – Judiciary's High Council of Human Rights in a statement Sunday protested to imposing new sanctions on Sharif University of Technology by the EU. According to Judiciary's Public Relations Department, recent measure by EU council to impose scientific embargoes on the university and placing its name on the list of EU sanctions is a gross violation of human rights and international commitments of EU member states. EU's unilateral decision to impose bans, scientific sanctions in particular, contravene most of member states' international commitments, the statement said. It further noted that any pressures and restrictions aimed at denying the Iranian nationals and universities their legal rights in scientific and technological fields is against the international convention on campaig against educational discrimination. Adopting such approaches against the credited university will certainly tarnish popularity of the EU member states. While the EU court has removed the university off the sanctions list due to lack of legal basis, EU council has placed the university on the sanctions list with no attention to the court verdict, it said./end
