Iran Reacts To Sarkozy's Repetitious, Baseless Remarks

Tehran, Feb 18, IRNA – Foreign Ministry spokesman here Friday rejecting remarks by the French president on the military nature of Iran’s transparent, peaceful nuclear activities, evaluated them as politically motivated, baseless, and repetitious. The Foreign Ministry Head Office for Media and Press Affairs quoted Ramin Mehmanparast as saying, “Such remarks are made ignoring the continuous and close cooperation of Iran with the International Atomic Energy Agency, under such conditions that a delegation of the agency visited our country recently.” Rejecting the phony claims made by President Sarkozy, Mehmanparast also referred to the other recent moves made by that country against Iran, including imposing illegal and unjust sanctions against Iran and their ever increasing opposition to Tehran's accelerating scientific and technological advancements. Addressing President Sarkozy, who had made no reference to the existence of nuclear power plants and warheads of the occupier Zionist regime in his remarks, the Iranian diplomat asked, “Aren’t those warheads threats against the regional and international peace and security?” Mehmanparast further emphasized, “That all by itself is the best sign for the double standards observed by the west against our nation, which is condemned in our viewpoint.” Sarkozy, in an interview with the quarterly Politique Internationale, said that Iran may face military action by Israel if it does not stop its threats and illegal nuclear activities, Bloomberg reported on February 5. However, Sarcozy said that everything must be done to avoid a confrontation. French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe, too, had earlier last week made similar remarks on our country’s peaceful nuclear program, in line with the US and Zionist archenemies of Iran./end
