Iran ready to engage in forward-looking talks with 5+1, Iranian SNSC secretary says

TEHRAN,April 12(MNA) – Supreme National Security Council secretary and chief nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili announced on Wednesday that Iran will present new initiatives in the talks with the major powers. Diplomats from Iran and the 5+1 group (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany) will meet in Istanbul on Saturday for nuclear talks. “Iranian representatives will participate in the negotiations with new initiatives and we hope that the 5+1 group would also enter dialogue with constructive approaches,” Jalili told reporters. He also said that Iran is ready to engage in forward-looking and productive talks to pave the way for increased cooperation, expressing hope that the 5+1 group will enter talks with the same approach in order to gain the Iranian nation’s confidence. In addition, he said that the experience shows that the language of threat and the strategy of pressure against the Iranian nation have never produced any results, but such approaches have only strengthened Iranians’ resolve. The only approach which can be successful in relations with the Islamic Republic is the strategy of dialogue and cooperation, he added. Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi also advised the 5+1 group to show good faith and flexibility during the talks. Two hundred and four Iranian lawmakers also issued a statement on Wednesday expressing their support for the delegation that will represent Iran in the talks.
