Iran Regional Superpower : Spanish FM

Madrid, Nov 27, IRNA – Foreign Minister of Spain José Manuel Garcia-Margallo said Tuesday that Iran has always been a big power in the Middle East region. He made the remark addressing a conference focusing on present and future talks with Iran in which a number of world officials including Javier Solana, Europe’s former top diplomat, were present. He further welcomed the Geneva nuclear agreement, describing it as an opportunity to bring about peace and tranquility to the region. He then criticized the double-standard policies adopted by the European Union on the Islamic Iran and the Zionist regime. The Spanish minister reiterated that the question of the regional nations is that why certain states including Israel are entitled to enjoy atomic bombs while others such as Iran, Egypt and Turkey have not the right to use nuclear energy. Ensuring stability in the Middle East is a basic necessity, he added. Expressing concern over the current situation in Syria, he stressed the situation in Egypt is not satisfactory either. The Spanish FM further stressed that diplomatic solution is the only way out of the Syrian crisis./end
