Iran Registers 200 Genes In World Gene Bank

Tehran, Sept 17, IRNA - Over 200 genes such as Clade A1 Persian Gulf have been registered in World Gene Bank by the Islamic Azad University, Science and Research Branch, Tehran, said an official on Tuesday. Researchers at the university have also extracted substances with analgesic, anticoagulant and anticancer effects from ocean animals, including sponges, sea cucumbers and sea snails, Pargol Qavam Mostafavi, the head of the university’s Department of Marine Biology, said. Mostafavi added that researchers at the university are studying coral reefs, which will help them cultivate corals artificially and revive them in the Persian Gulf./end
