Iran: Resorting To Force Against Countries, Contrary To UN Charter

New York, Oct 11, IRNA – Iran’s representative at UN General Assembly 6th Committee (Legal) said here Friday resorting to, or threatening to resort to force by some countries against some others is in direct contrast with UN Charter, as well as int’l laws. This year’s UNGA Sixth Committee is allocated to boosting the governance of law, focusing on increased access of the citizens in different world countries to the services offered by their judiciary systems and other law enforcement sources, according to the IRNA correspondent in New York. Member of the Iranian Permanent UN Delegation Hassan Qaribi in the Friday evening session of the 6th Committee (local time) elaborated on the IRI Constitution’s articles 34 and 35, the penal codes in Iranian laws, and facilitating the country’s Judiciary System with online access to judiciary files, all aimed at making easier the citizens’ access to judiciary services. He thane expanded the idea of the need to respect rule of laws from the internal affairs of individual countries to the need to observe them in international behavior of countries where they contradict the legitimate rights of the other countries and their political and territorial integrity. Qaribi said that the illegal, unilateral deeds of some countries aimed at imposing their will against others, either by imposing sanctions or by military threat is even more perilous than the former way of breaching the individuals’ legal rights. He even went further in his reasoning to argue that the UN contributions for capacity building in developing countries, too, are in need for gaining the agreement of the concerned governments, based on the same reasoning. The Iranian representative in the session attended by envoys from more than 80 countries added that the UN can share its experience in different countries in efforts aimed at more legal ways to deal with different countries in implementing the international operations. Qaribi stressed Iran’s call for a unified and comprehensive approach in countering terrorism as opposed to a selective one. “We still face a big challenge in countering terrorism; (that is) double standards and selective approaches in dealing with terrorism. Such ill approaches, we warn, would undermine international trust and cooperating in countering terrorism worldwide. We need a united international community in fighting this scourge in an indiscriminate manner,” the Iranian envoy added. Qaribi described Iran as a victim of terrorism, adding that the Islamic Republic is still suffering from terrorist attacks in different forms, including state terrorism. In September, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Seyed Abbas Araqchi underlined the necessity for consistent and unbiased campaign on the terrorist groups, including the ISIL, in all countries without discrimination./end
