Iran, Russia Reject Any Foreign Intervention In Syria

Moscow, Feb 8, IRNA – Iranian Ambassador to Russia Mahdi Sanaei and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhael Bogdanov in a meeting on Friday criticized foreign intervention in Syria. Both officials underlined that the Syrian crisis has to be resolved by only the Syrian people themselves. Sanaei said Iran wants an immediate end to violence in Syria and continuation of attempts to fight terrorism in the country. He voiced Iranˈs readiness to help secure a political solution to the Syrian crisis with the participation of Syrian government and influential regional countries, including Syriaˈs neighboring states. Sanaei underlined that Iranˈs positive and constructive role in the region is cannot be denied, stressing that any process without participation of Tehran will go nowhere. Bogdanov, for his part, stressed the importance of sustaining negotiations between Syrian government and opposition groups, urging all influential players in the region and the whole world to play their part in this regard./end
